The Alderney Island Railway
Why in the 1860’s was a railway built on an island that is only 3 miles long? To help build the harbour wall of course. The line has been preserved and offers fantastic views of the island.

114 miles of coast hugging track between Carlisle and Carnforth. Full of interesting places including Workington Docks, Sellafield Nuclear Plant and Grange over Sands.
