What a nice a bloke, it’s really good when someone turns
out the way you’d hoped they would. Very unassuming, great
talker (of course), and I get my first trip on a Virgin Voyager.
All in all it made for a very good day.
I’d been a little worried about doing my first ‘big’ interview,
and I was determined to keep it railway related – but ten
seconds before he sat down I still didn’t know what to say
(not the sort of thing Dave the director wants hear!).
Anyway, it sort of worked, and what you see is what you get,
that’s pretty much the interview with nothing edited out (only
the bits where I was inept!). He really is the sort of bloke
you’d happily spend the evening in the pub with.
The Voyager? Well, not a bad train, is it? I certainly didn’t
notice how fast we were going and we were in Leeds before
I knew it. Put a few more carriages on and Virgin look like
they’ve got a winner (comfortwise).
