Everyone loves St Pancras, don’t they? Well with the developments
going on in that area with the CTRL, let’s hope the hotel
is also restored to its former glory by one of the big hotel
chains. That beautiful example of Victorian gothic architecture
cannot stay derelict while everything around it is upgraded.
The worst thing about this day was filming on top of the
roof of St Pancras station. I do not have a head for heights
but had to endure a visit to the top as all the cameramen
and sound technicians had lugged their equipment to the top
so it was not appropriate to throw a showbiz tantrum and refuse
to go. I’m glad I didn’t. The views were spectacular and I
thought to myself ‘when am I ever going to get the chance
to come up here again?’
I felt very privileged to be able to visit the inside of
the hotel and was showed around by historian Robert Thorne.
Thank you Robert.
It will take millions of pounds to renovate it to standards
that are acceptable to today’s visitors.
